Tokenized Commodities in DeFi Reach $133 Million, Aave Leads Market Share
The total value of tokenized commodities actively deposited in decentralized finance (DeFi) protocols has reached $133.3 million, according to recent data from Token Terminal. This figure, while modest compared to the overall multi-billion dollar market for tokenized commodities, indicates a significant shift as real-world assets are increasingly utilized within DeFi rather than remaining idle in wallets.
Aave, a prominent lending protocol, holds a commanding 51.3% of the market share for these deposits, while Uniswap, known for its liquidity provision, accounts for 34.7%. Together, these two platforms represent 86% of all tokenized commodity activity in the DeFi space. Aave's dominance is largely attributed to its function as a lending protocol where users can deposit tokenized gold and other commodities as collateral to borrow stablecoins.
The growth of tokenized gold has been a key driver in 2026, with Aave expanding its infrastructure to accommodate gold-backed tokens such as XAUT. This strategy allows users to deposit tokenized gold, borrow stablecoins against it, and then invest those stablecoins for additional yield, showcasing a practical application of tokenized commodities in the DeFi ecosystem.
