Bank of Japan Raises Interest Rates Amid Mixed Market Reactions

The Bank of Japan (BOJ) has raised its policy interest rate by 25 basis points, a move that was anticipated by financial markets. However, the decision was complicated by dissent within the central bank's board, with two members opposing the hike. This dissent indicates a lack of unanimous agreement on the direction of monetary policy, which can lead to a softer market reaction than a unanimous decision would typically provoke.

Following the announcement, the USD/JPY currency pair experienced significant volatility. Initially, the yen weakened, pushing USD/JPY higher to 158.05, just above a key resistance level at 158.04. However, the market shifted direction after the BOJ conducted a rate check, a practice that often signals potential foreign exchange intervention. This led to a sharp decline in USD/JPY, reaching a low of 156.67, just above a critical support level at 156.656.

Traders are now closely monitoring the established trading range between 156.656 and 158.04. A break below the support level could lead to further declines, while holding above it may allow for a rebound towards the next resistance level at 157.536. The outcome of this range will likely influence the future direction of the USD/JPY exchange rate.
