Construction begins on data centre at Neom’s Oxagon

Construction has started on the first phase of a data centre at Neom’s Oxagon industrial region.

Humain, Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF)-owned artificial intelligence (AI) company, has partnered with DataVolt on the project, with the first 100-megawatt (MW) phase of the 360MW centre slated to be ready in 2028.

The facility, in the northwest of the kingdom, is expected to integrate renewable energy sources, new cooling technologies and high-performance computing clusters to support large-scale AI and cloud workloads, Humain said in a statement.

“Construction is underway, 100MW is moving forward. We are building with the speed and scale that the next era of AI demands,” said Tareq Amin, CEO of Humain.

The companies expect the project to benefit from Oxagon’s industrial land availability, energy resources and access to low-latency computing via subsea cable connectivity to Europe and Africa.

US chip designer Qualcomm has already deepened its relationship with Humain across data centre infrastructure, local engineering and a personal computer.

The Saudi AI company spent more than 12 months developing the Horizon Ultra computer with Qualcomm. It was unveiled at the Leap technology conference in Riyadh on Monday, and will be available to enterprise customers from September 20.

Humain was launched in May 2025 during US President Donald Trump’s visit to Saudi Arabia.

The company, chaired by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, aims to develop advanced AI infrastructure, including next-generation data centres, cloud platforms and large-scale Arabic language models.
