CrowdStrike (CRWD) Earnings Preview: Wall Street Anticipates 8% Volatility Swing
Quick Summary
- Q2 2027 earnings release scheduled for Wednesday, August 26, after market hours
- Options markets indicate potential volatility of 8% in either direction through week’s end
- Consensus estimates point to $1.44 billion in revenue (23% YoY growth) and $0.29 EPS (26% increase)
- Jefferies upgrades price target to $230 from $190, suggesting 20% potential upside
- Shares have surged over 60% this year; analyst consensus remains Strong Buy
The cybersecurity leader is preparing to unveil its Q2 2027 financial results following Wednesday’s closing bell on August 26, with market participants anticipating significant price action.
CrowdStrike Holdings, Inc., CRWD
Options market activity suggests the stock could experience movement of up to 8% in either direction before week’s end. Such a swing would position shares anywhere from $206 on the upside to below $175 on the downside, relative to Friday’s closing price.
The company’s shares have demonstrated impressive momentum throughout the year. Year-to-date gains exceed 60%, fueled by heightened cybersecurity demand amid numerous widely-publicized security breaches.
Street Consensus and Forecasts
The analyst community projects quarterly revenue reaching $1.44 billion, marking a 23% increase compared to the prior-year period. Adjusted earnings per share are anticipated at $0.29, representing approximately 26% year-over-year expansion when accounting for the four-for-one stock split executed in early July.
Market participants will pay particular attention to net new annual recurring revenue (NNARR) metrics. Current projections hover around $310 million, which would translate to roughly 40% year-over-year expansion from CrowdStrike’s primary operations.
Joseph Gallo from Jefferies, who ranks among the top 5% of Wall Street analysts on TipRanks, maintained his Buy recommendation while elevating his price objective from $190 to $230 ahead of the report.
According to Gallo, CrowdStrike “continues to be in pole position for the AI security race,” emphasizing the firm’s strategic positioning as a catalyst for expansion through fiscal 2027 and subsequent periods. His track record includes a 69% accuracy rate with an average 19.80% return across his calls.
However, Gallo cautioned that the stock’s remarkable 103% surge since April 4 has elevated market expectations considerably. He suggested that short-term appreciation potential may face constraints unless the company’s fiscal 2027 NNARR guidance demonstrates continued momentum heading into the fourth fiscal quarter.
Elevated Bar for Performance
Bank of America’s research team reinforced similar concerns. Their analysis highlighted that the substantial pre-earnings rally has created a more challenging environment for CrowdStrike to exceed expectations. They emphasized that market focus will center on the company’s success in translating AI-powered security demand into tangible revenue through its Falcon platform.
Among the 19 analysts monitored by Visible Alpha, 15 maintain buy recommendations while four hold neutral positions. The consensus price objective stands at $218, implying approximately 14% appreciation potential from Friday’s session close.
Across the broader Wall Street analyst universe, the consensus among 37 analysts indicates a Strong Buy rating, comprising 30 Buy recommendations and seven Hold ratings. The mean price target of $215.64 suggests around 12% upside potential.
The company’s Q2 results are scheduled for release following Wednesday’s market close on August 26.
