Federal Reserve Chair to Speak at IMF Meetings Amid Economic Discussions

Beth Hammack, president and chief executive officer of the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland, is scheduled to speak at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) meetings on October 16, 2026. Earlier this week, Hammack commented on the current state of Treasury rates, describing them as 'modest' by historical standards. She emphasized the need for further tightening of monetary policy to cool demand in the economy, while also keeping an open mind regarding the pace of such measures.

Later in the session, prominent figures including Andrew Bailey, Thomas Nagel, Kevin Warsh, and Tiff Macklem are expected to participate in discussions. Warsh, who is the Chair of the Federal Reserve, will engage in a 'fireside chat' during the meetings. Observers will be keen to see if he adheres to his previous stance of not providing guidance on future monetary policy decisions.
