Gold Prices Struggle as Market Dynamics Shift

Gold prices have faced significant challenges in recent weeks, struggling to gain traction amid rising bond yields and market pressures. Currently, the price of gold hovers around $4,114, caught in a consolidation phase between key support and resistance levels. The $4,200-20 range has proven to be a formidable barrier for buyers, while the $4,100-17 area serves as critical support for the metal.

The bond market has played a pivotal role in this dynamic, with 10-year Treasury yields remaining above 5%. This situation increases the opportunity cost of holding gold, a non-yielding asset, making it difficult for the precious metal to attract buyers despite its historical role as a hedge against geopolitical and inflation risks. The technical indicators reflect this struggle, as sellers have consistently defended the $4,200-20 region since early October, limiting any upward movement.

For gold bulls, maintaining the $4,100-17 support is essential, while a convincing break above $4,200-20 is necessary to target higher levels, including the 100-day moving average at approximately $4,232. Conversely, if prices fall below $4,100, the next psychological target could be the $4,000 mark, with further declines potentially reaching the July low near $3,960. With elevated Treasury yields continuing to exert pressure, the outlook for gold remains uncertain, and market participants are closely monitoring these key levels.
