Rising Fuel Prices May Impact U.S. Inflation Expectations

U.S. diesel prices have surged to nearly $6.50 per gallon, representing an increase of approximately 18% compared to the average price in August. Meanwhile, gasoline prices have also risen, reaching $4.48 per gallon. These escalating fuel costs are raising concerns about their potential impact on inflation expectations in the United States.

Consumer sentiment surveys have not yet fully reflected this recent spike in fuel prices, making the upcoming final Michigan sentiment survey a critical indicator. Business surveys, however, are already indicating heightened price pressures, which could reinforce the Federal Reserve's increasingly hawkish stance on monetary policy.
