Solana (SOL) Surges Past $100: Institutional Buying and Whale Accumulation Fuel August Rally
Key Highlights
- SOL has surged above $100, gaining more than 24% over seven days and 43% across the past month
- Institutional player DeFi Development Corp (DFDV) acquired 19,000 SOL tokens at $98.14 average entry price
- DFDV’s total holdings now exceed 2.3 million SOL designated for long-term treasury strategy
- Major wallet addresses purchased approximately $13.2 million in SOL during the past seven days
- Technical analysts identify $120–$130 as near-term resistance, with $150 representing an extended bullish target
Solana (SOL) has reclaimed the psychologically important $100 threshold following several months of subdued trading activity. This breakout has captured significant interest from both institutional market participants and high-net-worth crypto investors.

Current market data from Brave New Coin indicates SOL is changing hands between $101 and $103. The digital asset has appreciated more than 24% during the previous seven-day period and has gained 43% throughout the last 30 days, establishing August as its most successful month in 2024.
DeFi Development Corp (DFDV), recognized as one of the most prominent Solana-focused treasury organizations, announced it has recommenced its acquisition strategy. The entity added 19,000 SOL tokens to its holdings at a $98.14 average cost basis, financing the transaction partly through liquidating its ZeroStack holdings.
DFDV’s portfolio currently contains slightly more than 2.3 million SOL. According to company statements, this acquisition demonstrates their strategy to “capitalize on favorable market dynamics and expand treasury operations.”
The organization intends to maintain SOL as a strategic long-term treasury holding while utilizing it through staking mechanisms and blockchain-based treasury infrastructure.
Market response to DFDV’s announcement was favorable. The company’s equity shares increased more than 12% on announcement day and have climbed over 23% during the past week. Despite this recent momentum, shares remain approximately 3% negative year-to-date, whereas SOL trades 45% below its 2026 peak levels.
Large Wallet Transactions Reinforce Rally
Significant on-chain activity from major holders is providing additional support to the price recovery. Blockchain wallet analysis provided by analyst Ted Pillows reveals one substantial address accumulated approximately $13.2 million in SOL during the past week, executing multiple large-volume transfers from Binance exchange.
This accumulation pattern at critical technical price levels indicates that sophisticated market participants are establishing positions during the recovery phase, rather than merely responding to momentum-based price fluctuations.
Coin Bureau, a prominent cryptocurrency research platform, drew attention to the price movement on X, observing that Solana jumped approximately 13% in a single trading session and roughly 50% throughout August. The analysis highlighted the SIMD-0550 governance initiative as a significant catalyst, which proposes reducing SOL token issuance while simultaneously increasing the burn mechanism — dynamics that could generate supply-side pressure.
Technical Analysts Project $120–$130 Resistance Zone
Technical analyst Jesse Peralta has pinpointed $120–$130 as the subsequent significant resistance area, contingent upon SOL maintaining its position above the $100–$103 breakout region. A clean retest confirming this base would enhance the bullish technical structure.
Analyst Investor Jordan, who maintained a bearish outlook on SOL since January 2025, acknowledges the improving technical picture. He now projects $140–$150 as achievable targets assuming price action sustains above the $100 support level.
The $150 threshold, particularly the $150.36 level, has also been identified by analyst Skyline as a crucial higher-timeframe resistance area warranting close observation.
SOL is currently trading in the $101–$103 range. The pending SIMD-0550 governance vote addressing issuance reduction and enhanced burn rate continues to serve as an active catalyst for the token’s price trajectory.

BULLISH: Solana is EXPLODING, surging 13% today and about 50% in August for its strongest month since 2024.
