WTI Crude Oil Price Holds Key Support Amid Market Volatility

The price of West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil has experienced significant fluctuations recently, rising from approximately $80.00 on August 26 to a peak of $106.00 earlier this week. However, the price has since corrected lower, falling below critical technical levels, including the 100-hour moving average, which currently stands at $102.54. Despite this decline, buyers have managed to defend the rising 200-hour moving average, which is positioned at $99.08, and a nearby trendline support, preventing a more severe downturn.

As of now, WTI crude oil is caught between two important moving averages: the 200-hour moving average providing support and the 100-hour moving average acting as resistance. The recent low of $99.10 is just above the 200-hour moving average, indicating a crucial support area. For buyers to regain control, they need to push the price above the 100-hour moving average and maintain that level, which would shift the short-term bias back in their favor and potentially lead to a retest of the recent highs.

Geopolitical tensions in the Middle East have been a significant factor influencing oil prices. Recent drone attacks on Saudi Arabia's East-West pipeline raised concerns about potential disruptions to global oil supplies. Although some immediate supply fears have eased with reports of resumed cargo loadings and the possibility of the pipeline returning to service sooner than expected, the broader geopolitical risks remain. Any further attacks on Saudi energy infrastructure could quickly reinvigorate buyer interest in the oil market, while diplomatic progress could alleviate some of the price pressures.
