Balancer Holders Vote to Wind Down Operations and Reject Fork Proposal

Holders of Balancer, a decentralized finance (DeFi) protocol, have voted in favor of winding down the platform and have rejected a proposal for an official fork. This decision marks a significant shift in the governance of the protocol, which has been a key player in the DeFi space.

As part of the wind-down process, pools that can be paused will transition to a withdrawals-only mode starting on October 30, 2026. This change is expected to facilitate the orderly exit of users from the platform as it ceases operations. Additionally, holders of the BAL token will have the opportunity to redeem their tokens for treasury assets beginning at the end of May 2027.

The decision to wind down comes amid ongoing challenges in the DeFi sector, prompting stakeholders to seek a structured exit strategy rather than pursuing further development through a fork. This move reflects the evolving landscape of decentralized finance and the need for protocols to adapt to changing market conditions.
