Bitcoin Represents 1.7% of Global Money Basket, Reports River

Bitcoin now accounts for approximately 1.7% of the global money basket, according to analysis from River, a Bitcoin-focused financial firm. This milestone was reached just 16 years after Bitcoin's inception, with its market capitalization peaking at around $2.4 trillion before settling at roughly 1.66% of the total $138 trillion money basket, which includes the global fiat M2 money supply and gold's market capitalization.

River's analysis combines the total global fiat M2 money supply, estimated at $112.9 trillion, with gold's market cap of $25.1 trillion. The firm notes that Bitcoin's daily issuance is about 450 BTC, while businesses are absorbing approximately 1,755 BTC daily, indicating a tightening supply dynamic.

The report also highlights that only about 825,000 individuals worldwide own at least one whole Bitcoin, representing roughly 0.01% of the global population. This figure is significantly smaller than the number of millionaires globally, suggesting a concentrated ownership of Bitcoin. River's research indicates that a 10% allocation to Bitcoin has historically outperformed traditional investment strategies, such as the classic 60/40 stock-and-bond portfolio.
