Fake Ledger Websites Mislead Users, Garner Over One Million Visits

A recent investigation by security researcher @cyberscrilla has revealed that a fraudulent Ledger website and application have been ranking at the top of Google search results. This deceptive site is designed to trick users into disclosing their 24-word recovery phrases, a critical component for accessing cryptocurrency wallets. Data indicates that this fake website has attracted over one million visits in the past 30 days.

In a related finding, cybersecurity firm Zscaler reported in September that malicious advertisements on Google were impersonating Ledger, leading users to a counterfeit wallet verification page. These tactics highlight ongoing vulnerabilities in online security and the need for users to remain vigilant against phishing attempts.

Currently, Ledger is also investigating a significant wallet theft case involving a Southeast Asian dealer, CryptoBilis, with losses estimated at $86 million. This incident underscores the importance of secure practices in the cryptocurrency space, as users face increasing risks from fraudulent schemes.
