Kraken Reports 7 Million Funded Accounts as It Expands Financial Services
Kraken, a cryptocurrency exchange, has announced that it currently has approximately 7 million funded accounts globally, according to co-CEO Arjun Sethi. This figure represents a significant increase from about 5.7 million at the end of 2025 and reflects a year-over-year growth rate of 42% since mid-2025. A funded account is defined as one that holds actual money, distinguishing it from mere signups.
Sethi emphasized that Kraken is evolving beyond its initial role as a cryptocurrency trading platform. The company aims to transform into a comprehensive financial services provider under its parent company, Payward. This shift includes plans to offer a range of services such as trading, banking, asset management, and institutional services, moving towards a more integrated financial infrastructure.
In 2025, Payward reported $2.2 billion in adjusted revenue, marking a 33% increase from the previous year, with total transaction volume reaching $2.0 trillion. Kraken has also made strategic acquisitions, including a $1.5 billion purchase of NinjaTrader, which will help attract traditional traders, and a $550 million acquisition of Bitnomial to enhance its derivatives offerings. These moves are part of a broader strategy to create a unified platform where customers can trade, borrow, spend, and invest seamlessly across various financial products.
