PayPal Expands PYUSD Stablecoin to 70 New Markets Worldwide

PayPal has announced the expansion of its dollar-pegged stablecoin, PYUSD, to 70 new markets, significantly increasing its global reach. Previously available only in the United States and the United Kingdom, PYUSD can now be accessed by eligible users in countries such as Colombia, Costa Rica, Peru, Uganda, and Singapore. This move marks a substantial shift for the stablecoin, which has seen its circulating supply quadruple from approximately $1 billion in August 2025 to over $4 billion, making it the seventh-largest stablecoin by market capitalization.

The expansion aims to facilitate cross-border payments, a sector often burdened by high fees and lengthy settlement times. Traditional remittance services typically charge fees ranging from 5% to 10% and can take several days to process transactions. In contrast, PYUSD transactions utilize blockchain technology, which can significantly reduce both costs and processing times. PayPal is also offering an incentive for users in many of the newly added markets, allowing them to earn rewards on their PYUSD holdings, although this feature is not available in Singapore and the UK.

PYUSD is issued by Paxos, a company that operates under federal regulatory oversight. The stablecoin's growth reflects PayPal's strategy to enhance its offerings in the digital payments space, particularly in regions where traditional banking services may be limited. With this expansion, PayPal is positioning PYUSD as a viable alternative for users seeking efficient and cost-effective ways to manage their cross-border transactions.
