Spiral Integrates Bitcoin Payments into Mesh LLM for AI Compute Transactions

Spiral is developing a Bitcoin payment system for its Mesh LLM, a decentralized network designed for AI inference. This initiative aims to enable machines to buy and sell AI compute resources directly from each other, bypassing traditional banking systems. As of early October 2026, the payment feature is still in development, with no official release yet, but the intent is clear: to provide AI agents with a wallet for transactions rather than relying on corporate expense accounts.

The Mesh LLM network aggregates idle GPU power from users, allowing for collaborative execution of open-source AI models. By integrating payments through the Lightning Network, which facilitates quick and small transactions, GPU owners will receive compensation for the compute resources they contribute. AI agents will be able to pay for inference services directly, eliminating intermediaries in the process.

On October 3, 2026, the Spiral team discussed their progress on the payment integration and highlighted the challenge of ensuring verifiable compute. This issue arises when users pay for GPU services from unknown providers, raising concerns about the reliability of the work performed. The team acknowledged that trust is essential for the success of this payment model, particularly in an anonymous environment.

Spiral, initiated by Block in 2019, has expanded its focus to include AI infrastructure through various development kits. Recent discussions have also considered the integration of the x402 payment standard, which is tailored for AI agent micropayments, as a potential method for managing these transactions. However, as of now, there are no specific metrics available regarding adoption or transaction volumes.
