ZachXBT Critiques XRP Ledger Foundation's Vulnerability Bounty

ZachXBT, an on-chain detective, has publicly criticized the XRP Ledger Foundation for its handling of a recent security vulnerability. The foundation, which reportedly holds billions of dollars in its treasury, awarded only $250,000 to a white hat hacker who identified a critical flaw that could have allowed for 'infinite XRP issuance.' This limited bounty has raised concerns about the incentive structure for reporting vulnerabilities, with ZachXBT suggesting it may encourage potential attackers to exploit such weaknesses rather than disclose them responsibly.

In his remarks, ZachXBT expressed that the low bounty undermines the credibility of both the XRP Ledger and its parent company, Ripple. He emphasized that the financial reward should reflect the severity of the risk, arguing that a more substantial bounty would promote a culture of responsible disclosure. The XRP Ledger Foundation previously stated that the vulnerability did not result in any additional XRP being issued and that the fix was implemented following community consensus, aiming to enhance the overall security of the network.
