82 Million Galaxy Phones Will Soon Enable Cross-Border USDC Payments via Solana

      Key Highlights

      • USDC transfer functionality will arrive in Samsung Wallet and Samsung Pay during October’s final week.
      • Approximately 82 million Galaxy devices across the United States will gain access to this capability.
      • The integration eliminates the need for users to download standalone cryptocurrency applications.
      • No fees will be imposed by Samsung for transfers, although receiving platforms may charge their own rates.
      • International bank transfers to over 60 nations will be possible, with funds converting to local currencies.
      • Custody services for USDC holdings will be managed by Coinbase Prime, with additional support from Bastion.

Samsung is preparing to introduce cross-border stablecoin payment capabilities for Galaxy device owners throughout the United States. The functionality will become available through the company’s existing Samsung Wallet and Samsung Pay platforms.

The electronics manufacturer revealed its intentions in an official announcement published Thursday. Implementation is scheduled for October’s closing week.

The rollout will encompass roughly 82 million Galaxy smartphones and devices currently active in the US market. Transaction processing will utilize the Solana blockchain infrastructure.

Inside the New USDC Transfer System

According to Samsung, the payment feature has been integrated natively within Samsung Wallet. Device owners won’t be required to install third-party cryptocurrency software.

The digital wallet will incorporate both on-ramp and off-ramp mechanisms for fiat currency. These tools enable seamless conversion between traditional US dollars and USDC within the application interface.

Galaxy users will have the capability to transmit USDC tokens to any compatible external digital wallet. Solana and Sui blockchain technology will power the backend operations.

The architecture also incorporates Bastion, which operates as a regulated stablecoin custody provider in the United States.

“Sending money abroad should feel as convenient as using the wallet already on your phone,” said Woncheol Chai, executive vice president and head of the digital wallet team at Samsung Electronics.

Chai emphasized that qualified users can begin using the service “without installing another app or managing private keys themselves.”

Samsung has confirmed it won’t levy any charges for conducting transfers. However, receiving wallets or cryptocurrency exchanges might apply their own fee structures, and transaction completion times will vary based on prevailing network conditions.

The platform will additionally facilitate money transfers to qualifying banking institutions across more than 60 nations worldwide. Recipients will receive funds denominated in their native currency, though fee amounts may differ depending on the destination country.

      Deepening the Samsung-Coinbase Alliance

Samsung characterized this stablecoin integration as the “next chapter” in its ongoing collaboration with Coinbase. The partnership expanded last year to enable US-based Galaxy owners to fund their Coinbase accounts directly through Samsung Pay.

Alec Lovett, Coinbase’s head of infrastructure products, confirmed in a blog post on Wednesday that Coinbase will provide custodial services for USDC assets stored in Samsung Wallet. These custody operations will run through Coinbase Prime.

Lovett framed the upcoming launch as a “distribution milestone for USDC,” highlighting Samsung’s extensive worldwide user base.

Lily Liu, president of the Solana Foundation, noted that the feature “puts digital dollars into everyday life.”

“This level of adoption is what we built Solana for, and we’re seeing the moment when stablecoins stop being a crypto product and start being how people move money,” Liu said.

Samsung indicated plans to extend the service into additional geographic markets down the line. Any international expansion will need to align with regional regulatory frameworks and compliance requirements.
