D.A. Davidson Raises Micron Price Target to $3,000 Amid Strong Earnings

D.A. Davidson analyst Gil Luria has increased his price target for Micron Technology, Inc. to $3,000 from $2,100, suggesting that the company's shares could nearly triple from their current price of just above $1,000. This new target implies a valuation of approximately 19 times the expected earnings per share for fiscal 2027, compared to the current multiple of around six times. Luria's optimistic outlook is based on the belief that demand for memory chips will outstrip supply for several years, particularly driven by advancements in artificial intelligence that require more memory for optimal performance.

Micron's fiscal fourth-quarter revenue reached about $54 billion, surpassing forecasts of $51.5 billion, and the company has guided for approximately $61.5 billion in revenue for the current quarter. Despite a significant share price increase of over 260% this year, Luria argues that the market has not fully recognized Micron's growth potential, as many investors still view the company as a cyclical stock rather than a growth stock.

The analyst's target stands in stark contrast to the average Wall Street target of around $1,560, with Wells Fargo adjusting its target to $1,400 and Goldman Sachs maintaining a neutral rating at $1,100. Luria's forecast also factors in a substantial buyback program expected in December, which could further enhance earnings per share by reducing the total share count. However, the historical tendency for memory stocks to trade at low multiples during peak earnings could pose a challenge to Luria's bullish thesis, as investors remain cautious about potential downturns.
