Ethereum (ETH) Price: Can ETH Sustain Its 30% Rally and Breach the $2,500 Barrier?
Key Highlights
- Ethereum has surged 30% from August 19 lows, now challenging the critical $2,500 resistance zone
- Bitmine Chairman Tom Lee disclosed a 34,000 ETH purchase, identifying chart patterns resembling previous bull runs from 2021 and May 2025
- Binance funding rates for ETH reached 0.01, marking the highest reading in twelve months
- US-based spot Ethereum ETFs attracted $1.06 billion during August 2026, setting a new 12-month record
- Large holders accumulated 182,000 ETH while smaller retail investors offloaded 207,000 ETH over the past week
Ethereum has experienced a remarkable upward trajectory, appreciating over 30% since the August 19 bottom and approaching the psychologically significant $2,500 price point. While momentum appears to be decelerating, multiple technical and fundamental indicators continue signaling bullish sentiment.

Bitmine’s Chairman, Tom Lee, revealed his firm accumulated 34,000 ETH tokens during a five-day period spanning August 17 through August 21. Lee emphasized that Ethereum just completed its most substantial weekly percentage gain since May 2025.
Drawing historical parallels, Lee identified that comparable large-bodied weekly candlesticks emerged in July 2021 and May 2025. Following those technical formations, Ethereum proceeded to deliver returns of 167% and 170% respectively.
According to Lee, favorable macroeconomic tailwinds may fuel additional upside momentum. He specifically referenced approximately $1 trillion in anticipated Treasury buyback programs as a catalyst that could enhance market liquidity and strengthen appetite for higher-risk digital assets.
Market analyst Ash Crypto provided additional perspective via X, observing that ETH delivered a +31% weekly gain and registered its strongest weekly closing price since May 2025. He emphasized that Ethereum is currently examining the Weekly 200-day Moving Average, which he characterized as “the most important line for trend reversal.” Ash Crypto presented two potential paths forward: a sustained break above this technical threshold would open possibilities toward the $2,800–$3,400 range, whereas a rejection could trigger retracement toward $1,900 or potentially $1,500.
Derivatives Metrics and Blockchain Analytics
According to CryptoQuant intelligence, Ethereum’s funding rate on the Binance exchange has climbed to 0.01, representing the most elevated level observed over the past twelve months. This positive funding rate indicates that traders maintaining long positions are compensating short position holders to keep their leveraged bets active.
CryptoQuant’s Arab Chain analyst interpreted the ascending funding rate as evidence of strengthening risk appetite among market participants, with capital increasingly flowing toward spot-based instruments.
Blockchain analytics further reveal that ETH successfully breached its realized price benchmark of $2,306, which represents the aggregate cost basis across all investors. Smaller retail addresses holding between 100–1,000 ETH distributed 207,000 ETH throughout the previous week, while larger whale wallets containing 10,000–100,000 ETH accumulated an additional 182,000 ETH.

Spot ETF Demand Reaches Annual Peak
United States spot Ethereum ETFs have absorbed $1.06 billion in net inflows throughout August 2026 to date, establishing the strongest monthly performance since August 2025. BlackRock’s iShares Ethereum Trust dominated with $814 million in capital attraction, while Fidelity’s Ethereum Fund captured $81 million in investor commitments.

Collectively, ETH ETF products now control $14.74 billion in aggregate net assets, representing 4.93% of Ethereum’s overall market capitalization.
The past 24 hours witnessed $103.2 million in forced liquidations across ETH derivatives markets, with short positions accounting for $69 million of that total. Technical analysts have identified a golden cross pattern formation, where the 20-day Exponential Moving Average has crossed above the 200-day EMA.
Immediate resistance zones are positioned at $2,678 and $2,865, while downside support remains established at $2,431 and the 20-day EMA currently situated near $2,162.
