Ethereum (ETH) Price Eyes $4,000 Rally as On-Chain Metrics Flash Bullish Signals
Key Takeaways
- ETH encountered resistance near $2,800 recently and experienced a modest retracement.
- On-chain indicators including volume trends and MVRV Ratio suggest potential climb to $4,000.
- Spot ETFs recorded six consecutive days of positive flows, accumulating $834 million.
- Technical analysis indicates potential correction to $2,600 before continuation of uptrend.
- BitMine increased its Ethereum holdings by $140 million, bringing total treasury to 3.97 million tokens.
Ethereum’s price action encountered a critical resistance zone at $2,800 during the current week, followed by a minor pullback. This price level has served as a significant technical threshold for several weeks, emerging after ETH broke out from a bullish flag formation on daily timeframes.

The retracement occurred following a modest 7% appreciation over the previous month. This performance trails behind several alternative cryptocurrencies, including Hyperliquid and Zcash, which posted stronger gains during the same period.
However, two critical blockchain-based indicators are signaling that the asset may be positioning for an extended bullish phase. Market analysts closely monitor volume patterns and the MVRV (Market Value to Realized Value) Ratio as early warning systems for emerging bull cycles.
Blockchain Metrics Reveal Bullish Formation
A significant technical development occurred this week when the 7-day and 30-day moving averages for trading volume intersected for the first time since November 2025. Historical data shows that similar crossover events have typically preceded substantial price appreciation for Ethereum.
Additionally, the MVRV Ratio—which measures the relationship between current market capitalization and the aggregate cost basis of all holders—has shifted into positive territory. Historical analysis reveals that the previous four instances of this signal resulted in rallies that pushed ETH to $4,000 or beyond.

Technical momentum indicators further reinforce the optimistic outlook. The Relative Strength Index currently registers at 63, indicating that buying pressure remains dominant despite the recent consolidation.
Market analyst Daan Crypto Trades highlighted that the $2,800 level has functioned as a pivotal support and resistance zone for Ethereum throughout the last two years. He observed that significant price movements frequently follow tests of this area, suggesting the current rejection might simply represent another validation of this historically important level.
He further emphasized that the overall trend structure remains bullish, indicating that multiple retests of $2,800 could ultimately result in a decisive breakout to higher levels.
Technical chart patterns suggest a potential decline toward $2,600 before resuming upward momentum. This zone corresponds with a psychologically significant price threshold where institutional participants historically accumulate positions.
Institutional Demand Through ETFs and Corporate Accumulation
Spot Ethereum exchange-traded funds have recorded positive net inflows for six straight trading sessions. During this period, institutional and retail investors channeled $834 million into these investment vehicles.
In parallel developments, Ethereum treasury company BitMine acquired $140.58 million in ETH during the past week. The firm purchased 48,049 tokens from a FalconX wallet, as documented by blockchain intelligence sources EmberCN and Lookonchain.
BitMine, under the leadership of Fundstrat co-founder Tom Lee, has accumulated a total of 3,967,210 ETH. These holdings were acquired at an average cost basis of $3,074 per token, representing approximately $11.6 billion in current market value.
The company purchased 240,711 ETH during just the first two weeks of December. BitMine has publicly stated its strategic objective to control 5% of Ethereum’s total circulating supply.
Lee recently commented that regulatory advancements in Washington and increasing institutional adoption from traditional finance represent encouraging developments for the cryptocurrency sector in 2025. BitMine’s stock price closed 1.42% higher on Tuesday, reaching $31.39.
BitMine shares have surged 551.24% during the past six-month period. The company has maintained its aggressive acquisition strategy throughout recent market volatility, showing no signs of slowing its accumulation program.
As of Sunday morning UTC, ETH is trading around $2,713.96, reflecting a 1.21% increase. Market analysts are now focusing on $3,400 as the next major resistance target above the current $2,800 consolidation zone.
