EUR/USD Falls Below Key Support Level Amid US-Iran Tensions

The EUR/USD currency pair has broken below the significant support level of 1.14, reflecting heightened market volatility influenced by geopolitical tensions and economic data. The US dollar experienced initial pressure last week due to declining oil prices, which were driven by expectations of a de-escalation in the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. However, optimism waned following remarks from former President Donald Trump at the UN General Assembly, where he indicated that a deal with Iran would not materialize until after the upcoming elections, leading to a resurgence in oil prices.

In the context of the eurozone, the European Central Bank (ECB) recently raised its deposit rate by 25 basis points to 2.50%. This decision was influenced by concerns over inflation, particularly due to energy price shocks stemming from the Middle East. The ECB has revised its inflation forecasts upward, anticipating headline inflation to reach 3.0% in 2026 and 2.5% in 2027. The ECB's more hawkish stance suggests that further rate hikes could be on the table if inflation pressures persist, with discussions already underway for a potential increase at the October meeting.

Technical analysis indicates that the break below the 1.14 support level may lead to further declines, with sellers likely to target the 1.11 mark. Conversely, buyers are looking for a rebound above the broken support to signal a potential correction towards the 1.1550 level. Upcoming economic data, including US consumer confidence and job openings reports, as well as Eurozone inflation figures, will be closely monitored as they could influence market sentiment and currency movements in the coming days.
