US Dollar Weakens Ahead of Key Economic Reports and ECB Rate Decision

The US dollar has been on a downward trend following the release of the Non-Farm Payroll (NFP) report, as market attention shifts towards inflation indicators. The upcoming Consumer Price Index (CPI) report is anticipated to be a critical factor influencing the Federal Reserve's monetary policy decisions. Federal Reserve official Christopher Waller has indicated that he will not consider a rate hike unless the CPI shows significant inflationary pressure. In the meantime, the Producer Price Index (PPI) report is expected to be released today, which may also impact market sentiment.

In Europe, the European Central Bank (ECB) is widely expected to raise interest rates by 25 basis points, bringing the policy rate to 2.50%. ECB President Christine Lagarde is not expected to commit to further hikes, maintaining a data-dependent approach. Market forecasts suggest that the ECB may implement at least three additional rate increases by the end of 2027, reflecting a tightening bias already priced into the market. However, if Lagarde adopts a cautious tone, it could lead to a reduction in rate hike expectations, negatively affecting the euro.

The EUR/USD currency pair has shown signs of recovery, bouncing off the 1.1560 support level. Traders are eyeing the 1.1711 resistance level as a potential target for further gains. However, the market remains sensitive to inflation risks, particularly in light of rising oil prices due to geopolitical tensions in the region. As traders prepare for the ECB's decision and the US CPI report, volatility in the currency pair is expected.
