Dell Technologies (DELL) Stock Reaches Record Peak as Founder Climbs to Third Wealthiest Globally
Key Highlights
- Shares of DELL climbed 11.8% on Friday, reaching a record peak of $567.75
- RBC Capital Markets launched coverage with an Outperform designation and $640 target price
- The company reported $60.9 billion in AI server orders with a backlog totaling $95 billion
- Founder Michael Dell’s wealth increased to $274 billion, securing third position on Forbes’ global wealth rankings
- Potential headwinds include significant insider transactions, component availability constraints, and upcoming $4 billion debt issuance
Dell Technologies (DELL) achieved a record intraday peak of $567.75 during Friday’s session, ultimately settling with an 11.8% gain near $566.62. This represents a substantial move from Thursday’s close of $506.62, accompanied by trading activity that exceeded typical daily volumes by 71%.
The sharp upward movement followed RBC Capital Markets’ decision to begin tracking the stock with an Outperform recommendation alongside a $640 price objective. RBC’s analysts highlighted the company’s strategic positioning within enterprise artificial intelligence spending, infrastructure modernization trends, expanding storage requirements, and upcoming PC replacement cycles.
Goldman Sachs simultaneously adjusted its forecast from $510 to $570 while maintaining its Buy stance. Barclays increased its projection from $550 to $603, affirming an Overweight position. Fox Advisors elevated its rating from Equal Weight to Overweight, establishing a $625 objective.
The technology giant’s most recent quarterly results, unveiled on September 1st, significantly exceeded Wall Street projections. Dell reported earnings per share of $7.04 compared to analyst estimates of $4.91, while revenue reached $46.97 billion, marking a 57.7% year-over-year increase.
Artificial Intelligence Infrastructure Fuels Growth Trajectory
Orders for AI-focused servers totaled $60.9 billion, contributing to an overall backlog approaching $95 billion. Revenue from AI-optimized server solutions doubled quarter-over-quarter to $16.4 billion. Dell has established fiscal year 2027 earnings guidance at $25.50 per share, with third-quarter expectations set at $6.50.
Market enthusiasm received additional support from Oracle’s announced $95 billion infrastructure investment initiative. Dell stands positioned as a primary provider of Nvidia-powered server systems, capturing growing demand from both cloud hyperscalers and corporate enterprise clients.
The company’s market capitalization now stands at $367.23 billion, featuring a price-to-earnings multiple of 32.89 and a beta coefficient of 1.34. The stock’s 50-day moving average registers at $447.99.
Global Wealth Rankings Experience Reshuffling
Friday’s stock performance elevated CEO Michael Dell’s estimated net worth by more than 6% to $274 billion, placing him marginally ahead of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos at $273 billion for third position on Forbes’ live billionaire tracker.
Dell and Bezos have alternated control of the third-place ranking throughout recent trading sessions. Dell temporarily surpassed Larry Page midweek before relinquishing the position. Page’s fortune registered at $279 billion as of Friday’s close. Elon Musk maintains the top position with an estimated $916 billion in net worth.
However, some concerning signals have emerged. Multiple insiders have recently divested holdings, including Silver Lake-connected entities that reduced their stakes by more than 53% and 58% respectively. Collectively, company insiders offloaded 1.3 million shares valued at over $624 million during the previous three-month period.
Additionally, Dell is preparing a $4 billion bond issuance aimed at debt refinancing, which market participants will scrutinize for potential effects on financial leverage and liquidity. Ongoing component availability challenges in AI hardware sectors present another concern, alongside valuation questions following the stock’s rapid appreciation.
The collective analyst perspective currently reflects a Moderate Buy rating, with a mean price target of $560.24 based on forecasts from 36 analysts. The company distributes a quarterly dividend of $0.63 per share, translating to an annualized payout of $2.52 and yielding 0.4%.
