Gold Price Falls Below $4,200 Amid Rising Treasury Yields

Gold prices have dropped below $4,200, marking the lowest level in nearly eight weeks. This decline is attributed to increasing pressure from the bond market, particularly surging Treasury yields. The price of gold had been consolidating between $4,240 and $4,400 for the past two weeks, but the recent break below the $4,240 support level indicates a shift in market dynamics favoring sellers.

The rise in Treasury yields has been significant, with 10-year yields reaching 5.23% last week, the highest since 2007. As yields on government debt increase, the opportunity cost of holding gold, which does not provide a yield, becomes more pronounced. This situation is compounded by rising oil prices, driven by deteriorating US-Iran diplomatic relations, which are raising inflation concerns and potentially leading to further tightening by the Federal Reserve.

Market analysts suggest that without a recovery above the $4,240 mark, gold may continue to face downward pressure, with a potential target of $4,000 looming. The current environment indicates that as long as Treasury yields rise and gold remains below critical support levels, the outlook for the precious metal remains bearish.
