Goldman Sachs Reports Surge in U.S. Junk Bond Issuance

Goldman Sachs has issued a warning regarding the current state of the U.S. junk bond market, noting that a significant increase in high-yield debt issuance is overwhelming investor demand. In September alone, the issuance of junk bonds has reached $38.5 billion, contributing to a widening of junk-bond spreads to their highest levels since April 2026.

The report highlights that CCC-rated bonds have experienced a notable surge in spreads, marking their highest point since 2023. This trend indicates growing concerns among investors regarding the risk associated with lower-rated debt amid the influx of new issuances.

Additionally, Goldman Sachs has identified nearly $600 billion in debt related to artificial intelligence (AI) that has been issued this year. The firm cautions that if the current pace continues, there could be another acceleration in debt supply anticipated in 2027.
