IMF Warns AI Investment Bust Could Impact Global Economic Growth

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has issued a warning regarding the potential consequences of a significant downturn in artificial intelligence (AI) investments. In a downside scenario, the IMF projects that a bust in AI investments could lead to a reduction in global economic growth by as much as 1.3 percentage points by 2028.

The report highlights that U.S. spending on AI infrastructure is expected to surpass $10 trillion by 2032. Meanwhile, economies in Asia are increasingly reliant on exports driven by AI technologies. The IMF emphasizes that if anticipated profits and productivity from AI do not materialize, a decline in investment could provoke a global stock market selloff and a broader economic slowdown.
