Iran's President Seeks US Deal Before Midterm Elections

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian expressed a desire for the United States to return to a memorandum of understanding (MOU) before the upcoming midterm elections. Speaking on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly, Pezeshkian stated, "We wish Americans to return to the MOU before the midterms," emphasizing the urgency of reaching an agreement prior to the elections.

Pezeshkian's comments suggest that Tehran is keen on making progress in negotiations with Washington. However, analysts note that his remarks alone do not indicate that an agreement is imminent. The focus now shifts to whether both sides will take tangible steps toward resuming talks, as past discussions have often stalled without resolution.

In the oil market, crude prices experienced fluctuations following news of a potential reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and a possible end to the US blockade. Prices fell from a high of $96.78 to $93.30 but later rebounded to $95.66, currently trading at $94.96. This volatility reflects traders' cautious optimism regarding the possibility of a deal, although skepticism remains about the likelihood of concrete outcomes.
