JPMorgan Reports Lower-Than-Expected Q3 Earnings and Revenue

JPMorgan Chase & Co. has reported its third-quarter earnings for 2026, revealing that both earnings per share (EPS) and revenue fell short of analysts' expectations. The bank's adjusted EPS was $5.75, missing the forecast of $5.94 by 3.2%. Managed revenue for the quarter was $50.9 billion, also below the anticipated $51.22 billion, marking a 0.6% miss. Despite these shortfalls, reported revenue increased by 8% year-over-year, totaling $50.2 billion, while net income rose by 6% to $15.31 billion.

In terms of segment performance, the bank's Fixed Income, Currency, and Commodities (FICC) trading revenue was particularly disappointing, coming in at $5.37 billion against an expected $6 billion, representing a 10.5% miss. However, the investment banking segment generated $3.1 billion, and the Corporate and Investment Bank (CIB) net income increased by 20% year-over-year to $8.25 billion. Consumer banking also performed well, with net income rising by 13% to $5.67 billion, and asset and wealth management net income increased by 11% to $1.84 billion.

Following the release of these results, JPMorgan's shares fell by 2.8% in premarket trading, reflecting investor concerns over the missed earnings and revenue targets. The bank's credit loss provisions decreased by 19% year-over-year to $2.74 billion, indicating a more favorable outlook on credit quality.
