Lowe’s (LOW) Stock Dips 2% Despite Launching Innovative Drone Delivery Service

      Key Highlights

      • On September 24, 2026, Lowe’s initiated a drone delivery trial program at its Matthews, North Carolina location.
      • The initiative operates via partnerships with Wing (an Alphabet subsidiary) and DoorDash, providing deliveries in approximately 20 minutes.
      • Despite the announcement, LOW shares declined roughly 2% during trading.
      • Analysts assign a Moderate Buy consensus rating to LOW with an average price target of $253.50, suggesting approximately 33% potential upside.
      • The move positions Lowe’s alongside Walmart and Amazon in the competitive drone delivery landscape.

Lowe’s Companies Inc. (LOW) shares experienced a roughly 2% decline on Wednesday following the home improvement retailer’s announcement of a novel drone delivery trial program. The stock’s retreat occurred despite the company’s strategic advancement in digital commerce capabilities.

The trial program commenced at the company’s Matthews, North Carolina location, representing a groundbreaking moment as the first home improvement chain to introduce aerial delivery services to its customer base.

The retailer developed this capability through collaborative agreements with Wing, Alphabet’s (GOOGL) drone division, and delivery platform DoorDash (DASH). Shoppers can access the service via a specialized section within the DoorDash mobile application.

Orders can reach customers in approximately 20 minutes. Each drone flight accommodates payloads up to 2.5 pounds and serves areas within a five-mile range from the store location.

      Available Product Selection

The trial encompasses over 100 product options, featuring hand tools, painting supplies, adhesive tape, batteries, cleaning solutions and multi-purpose cleaners.

These products represent typical items that homeowners and contractors discover they need while actively working on projects. Seemantini Godbole, Lowe’s chief information and AI officer, explained the initiative aims to eliminate unnecessary store visits.

In an interview with CNBC, Godbole noted that shoppers commonly face project interruptions upon realizing they lack essential supplies. The aerial delivery alternative enables them to continue their work without departing from their residence or worksite.

This new offering complements Lowe’s current fulfillment methods, which encompass online ordering with in-store pickup, curbside collection and traditional same-day delivery services.

      Expansion Possibilities

According to Lowe’s, the trial program may extend beyond North Carolina depending on performance metrics. The company intends to evaluate input from employees and DoorDash prior to implementing modifications.

Godbole indicated the technology division conducts daily monitoring of store operations. She characterized the strategy as maintaining flexibility to enable rapid adjustments informed by actual performance data.

Lowe’s joins other major retailers exploring aerial delivery solutions. Walmart (WMT) announced earlier this year its intention to scale its Wing collaboration to exceed 270 locations by 2027.

Amazon (AMZN) continues advancing in this arena as well. Last month, the e-commerce giant revealed plans to deploy its Prime Air program to nearly 500 municipalities by year’s end.

For fiscal 2025, Lowe’s generated sales exceeding $86 billion. The retailer maintains operations at more than 1,750 locations and maintains a workforce of approximately 300,000 employees.

Among Wall Street analysts, LOW currently carries a Moderate Buy consensus rating. This assessment derives from 16 Buy recommendations and 7 Hold recommendations, per TipRanks data.

The consensus price target for LOW stands at $253.50, suggesting potential gains of approximately 33% from present trading levels.

The most optimistic price forecast among analysts tracking the stock reaches $275. Wing’s existing drone infrastructure in the Charlotte region preceded this pilot, providing Lowe’s with an already operational delivery framework to integrate.
