Meta Platforms (META) Stock Surges as Muse AI Integration Takes Center Stage at Connect Event
Key Takeaways
- Meta introduced Muse AI agent capabilities built into smartglasses and a wearable pendant device dubbed Muse Charm.
- The compact Muse Charm wearable is scheduled for December holiday release, with pricing details yet to be disclosed.
- A premium $1,299 VR headset was announced with a spring 2027 launch window.
- META stock posted a 30% gain this month but retreated 2% during after-hours trading post-announcement.
- Muse has secured retail integrations with Walmart, Sephora, Best Buy, and Gap, though Amazon has restricted the agent’s purchasing capabilities.
Meta’s chief executive Mark Zuckerberg presented the company’s vision for Muse AI integration at Wednesday’s Meta Connect conference, demonstrating how the artificial intelligence agent will permeate the tech giant’s entire product ecosystem. The announcement followed a remarkable rally that lifted META stock 30% throughout the month, marking its strongest monthly performance since July 2013.
Positioning Muse as the foundation of Meta’s journey toward what he termed “personal superintelligence,” Zuckerberg appeared on stage sporting a shirt emblazoned with “BUILDING IS MY LOVE LANGUAGE” while conducting live demonstrations of the agent’s capabilities.
Despite the ambitious product roadmap, the stock retreated 2% in extended trading hours following the presentation, according to the most recent data available.
Muse-powered hardware takes shape
The showcase’s standout announcement featured Muse Charm, a compact keychain-style gadget enabling users to interact with their Muse agent without reaching for their smartphone. According to Zuckerberg, the engineering team has “packed a lot of technology with this little guy.”
While the executive stopped short of revealing the device’s price point, he guaranteed availability in time for December’s holiday shopping season. Meta continues refining the hardware components ahead of the commercial launch.
Zuckerberg additionally disclosed plans to embed Muse functionality directly within Meta’s smartglasses collection. Users will activate the agent through voice commands, a feature he illustrated by instructing Muse to schedule a meeting with Chief Technology Officer Andrew Bosworth.
The live demonstration proceeded smoothly without technical issues. With Muse currently dominating Apple’s App Store charts, integrating the technology into wearable devices could accelerate adoption even further.
Virtual reality resurfaces with premium offering
Meta unveiled plans for a new VR headset carrying a $1,299 price tag, slated for spring 2027 availability. The announcement represents the company’s first virtual reality hardware since the budget-friendly $299 Quest 3S debuted in 2024.
The upcoming glasses utilize a separate external module containing a Qualcomm chipset and battery pack, allowing the headset portion to remain lightweight. Integrated eye and hand tracking technology reduces reliance on traditional handheld controllers.
Zuckerberg characterized the device as providing “the same magical feeling of presence and immersion” associated with previous Quest products, but packaged in a more streamlined design. Conspicuously missing from this year’s presentation was substantial discussion of the metaverse—the very concept that prompted Meta’s corporate rebrand.
“We made the decision to focus a little bit less on the metaverse for now,” Zuckerberg acknowledged, making an exception only for the new VR hardware.
The keynote delivered numerous supplementary announcements beyond the flagship products. A camera-less, audio-exclusive smartglasses model is now shipping for consumers concerned about privacy issues surrounding earlier video-recording versions.
The company also introduced an updated Ray-Ban Meta glasses generation, featuring a promotional partnership with Blackpink member Lisa. Meta Ray-Ban Display glasses will support holographic video conferencing, projecting a photorealistic digital representation of the wearer’s face during calls.
Muse’s functionality extends beyond text-based interactions as well. An upcoming voice interface will enable users to communicate with the agent verbally and receive immediate task assistance.
Regarding retail collaborations, Meta announced new partnerships integrating Muse with Walmart, Sephora, Best Buy, and Gap platforms. However, universal retailer adoption remains elusive. Amazon recently blocked Muse from processing transactions on its marketplace, stating the agent lacked proper authorization for such activities.
