NYSE Partners with Blockchain.com to Develop Tokenized Securities Platform

      Key Highlights

      • NYSE Group and Blockchain.com have entered into a memorandum of understanding to develop worldwide access to tokenized U.S. equities and exchange-traded funds.
      • The proposed NYSE digital marketplace would enable 24-hour trading and blockchain-based settlement of tokenized securities.
      • Blockchain.com’s cryptocurrency market intelligence will be distributed by ICE Data Services, while Blockchain.com integrates NYSE and ICE equity data into its platform.
      • Through its partnership with Ondo Finance, Blockchain.com currently provides access to more than 200 tokenized U.S. equities and ETFs across 30 European nations.
      • Implementation of the partnership requires regulatory clearance, with no specific timeline announced.

NYSE Group and Blockchain.com have formalized an arrangement designed to expand international accessibility to tokenized versions of U.S. stocks and exchange-traded funds.

This week’s announcement details how NYSE’s forthcoming digital marketplace will integrate with Blockchain.com’s extensive international user network.

      Partnership Scope and Details

A memorandum of understanding between the organizations outlines their collaboration on distributing blockchain-based versions of U.S.-listed equities and ETFs.

The arrangement would enable qualified Blockchain.com customers to trade these digital assets via NYSE’s upcoming digital marketplace, pending regulatory authorization.

Neither organization has disclosed which jurisdictions will receive initial access. NYSE’s digital infrastructure is being built to facilitate continuous trading beyond conventional market operating hours.

Settlement operations would occur directly on blockchain networks. NYSE previously indicated the system will accommodate fractional ownership and transactions funded with stablecoin assets.

Peter Smith, serving as Blockchain.com’s Executive Chairman and CEO, described tokenized equities as a transformative development in contemporary financial services. He emphasized that integration with NYSE’s infrastructure could deliver blockchain-based assets to Blockchain.com’s international customer base.

NYSE established a separate partnership with Securitize this past March. Securitize is anticipated to function as both digital transfer agent and broker-dealer on the emerging platform.

      Data Exchange Components

The partnership encompasses provisions for mutual market intelligence sharing. ICE Data Services operates as an affiliate of Intercontinental Exchange, NYSE’s parent organization.

ICE Data Services will offer Blockchain.com’s cryptocurrency market intelligence and analytical tools to its institutional client base. This arrangement provides traditional financial institutions enhanced visibility into digital asset pricing dynamics.

Concurrently, Blockchain.com will incorporate select ICE and NYSE market data streams into its application. This integration allows users to monitor equity markets in real-time alongside their cryptocurrency portfolios.

With over 44 million verified user accounts, Blockchain.com represents a substantial customer network. Lynn Martin, President of NYSE Group, stated that capital markets leadership will belong to organizations merging traditional financial reliability with blockchain technology accessibility.

Tokenized equity offerings aren’t unfamiliar territory for Blockchain.com. The platform has previously made such products available to qualified customers in multiple jurisdictions.

During the current year, Blockchain.com broadened its collaboration with Ondo Finance throughout European markets. This expansion provides customers across 30 European Economic Area member states with access to over 200 blockchain-based U.S. stocks and ETFs.

The firm has simultaneously expanded its regulated operations across African markets. Blockchain.com was recently admitted to the Nigerian Securities and Exchange Commission’s Accelerated Regulatory Incubation Programme, or ARIP.

This initiative establishes a compliant framework for digital asset enterprises operating within Nigeria. It represents one of multiple initiatives Blockchain.com has undertaken to strengthen its international presence beyond U.S. borders.

Tokenized instruments function differently than conventional share ownership. Blockchain.com clarifies that its Ondo-supported offerings mirror the financial performance of underlying equities and ETFs without conferring direct ownership rights.

The platform states that regulated U.S. custodial institutions maintain custody of the assets supporting these blockchain-based instruments.

Implementation of the NYSE-Blockchain.com agreement depends on securing necessary regulatory approvals. Neither party has announced a projected date for when Blockchain.com customers might gain access to NYSE’s planned tokenized securities marketplace.
