Oil Prices Decline as Saudi Pipeline Restarts Amid Mixed Currency Movements

The U.S. dollar experienced mixed performance as North American traders began their day. After a significant spike during the European morning, the dollar has retraced some of its gains, remaining higher against the British pound, Canadian dollar, and Australian dollar, while declining against the Japanese yen, Swiss franc, and New Zealand dollar. The euro remains relatively unchanged against the greenback.

In a significant development for the oil market, Saudi Arabia has restarted its East–West pipeline, which transports crude oil to the Red Sea port of Yanbu. Although the pipeline is currently operating at a reduced capacity, exports from Yanbu are expected to resume later today. This restart has alleviated some immediate supply concerns, contributing to a decrease in crude oil prices. Brent crude is currently priced at $98.68, down 1.65%, while West Texas Intermediate (WTI) is at $93.60, down 2.28%.

Market analysts are also monitoring potential diplomatic developments between the U.S. and Iran, particularly during the ongoing UN General Assembly. A senior Iranian official indicated that the Strait of Hormuz could reopen within a week if the U.S. eases military pressure, although this timeline has been disputed by other Iranian sources. As traders assess the implications of the pipeline restart and the uncertain diplomatic landscape, U.S. stock futures are showing modest gains, with the Dow futures up by 203.12 points.
