Russia Investigates Death of Worker at Infectious Disease Research Institute

Russian authorities are conducting an investigation into the death of a female employee at an infectious-disease research institute located in Siberia. The woman developed pneumonia of unknown origin, prompting health officials to take precautionary measures, including placing her contacts under medical observation and quarantining a local hospital.

Despite the seriousness of the situation, officials have stated that tests conducted thus far have not identified any pathogens related to her work. They have also sought to alleviate concerns by downplaying speculation regarding a potential link to the plague.

In response to the incident, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio indicated that the United States is closely monitoring developments surrounding the case.
