Silver Prices Surge Amid Lower Treasury Yields

Silver prices experienced a significant increase of 4.5% today, marking the largest one-day gain since August 19. This surge is attributed to a decline in U.S. Treasury yields, with the 30-year yield dropping nearly 6 basis points to 4.944% and the 10-year yield falling 4.6 basis points to 4.681%. Lower yields diminish the opportunity cost of holding non-yielding assets like silver, contributing to the metal's upward momentum.

The recent price action for silver has been characterized by volatility, particularly after reaching a peak of $71.16 at the end of August. Throughout September, the price tested the 50% retracement level at $62.92 multiple times but failed to maintain a position below it. This inability to stay below a key support level has frustrated sellers and allowed buyers to regain control, leading to today's rally.

Silver's price climbed above critical technical levels, including the 100-hour moving average at $63.86 and the 61.8% retracement at $63.95. The market has now set its sights on the 100-day moving average, currently at $66.75, which is seen as the next significant target. For the bullish trend to continue, silver must remain above the $64.85 to $64.90 range, while a drop below these levels could shift momentum back to sellers.
