Snap (SNAP) Unveils $2,195 AR Specs with Built-In AI as Stock Dips 2%
Key Highlights
- Snap unveiled its Specs augmented reality eyewear for $2,195, equipped with dual integrated displays and twin Snapdragon processors
- The device operates independently without requiring smartphone connectivity, differentiating it from Meta’s $799 Ray-Ban Display eyewear
- Specs Intelligence offers AI-driven functionality with integration across Gmail, Slack, and messaging platforms
- The company pursues both consumer and business markets through strategic alliances with Salesforce, Nvidia, and Verizon
- Shares of SNAP declined 1.89% following the product announcement
Snap unveiled its highly anticipated Specs augmented reality eyewear Wednesday, carrying a price tag of $2,195. The company’s shares retreated 1.89% during trading.
The AR glasses made their debut at the Augmented World Expo in June, where CEO Evan Spiegel described them as ushering in a “new era of computing.” The product is now commercially available.
The Specs operate as a completely independent device, distinguishing them from Meta’s $799 Ray-Ban Display glasses that rely on smartphone pairing. Snap’s eyewear runs applications and software autonomously through dual Snapdragon processors embedded within the frame.
Snap Co-founder and CEO Evan Spiegel will share the first in-depth look at SPECS, demonstrating how they bring AI assistance, work tools, entertainment, and shared experiences into the world around us. https://t.co/KrFZCAVy5l

Each lens incorporates its own display, delivering a 51-degree field of view with 16 million color support. By comparison, Meta’s Ray-Ban Display glasses utilize a single display positioned in the lower right section of the right lens.
The eyewear weighs 132 to 136 grams based on frame size and incorporates electrochromic lenses requiring approximately 10 seconds for tinting. Users can expect roughly four hours of operation per charge, extending to 20 hours with the accompanying charging case.
AI Platform and Business Applications
Snap revealed Specs Intelligence as the device’s AI backbone. This platform delivers contextually relevant information directly within the user’s visual field. A demonstration showed an airport traveler receiving real-time gate change notifications through the glasses.
The system integrates with Gmail, Messages, Slack, and other applications, with availability extending to Mac and iPhone devices. Another demonstration showcased Specs Intelligence navigating to a cinema ticketing platform and executing a transaction with limited user interaction.
For business applications, Snap collaborates with Salesforce to enable field personnel to identify objects and access associated data through the eyewear. The company’s partnership with Nvidia brings AI agents to Specs, enhancing workers’ environmental awareness and understanding.
Verizon provides cellular connectivity for the charging case, though users must obtain a separate Verizon data subscription.
Market Landscape and Privacy Considerations
Snap enters an increasingly competitive smart glasses market. Samsung and Google are developing their own eyewear products, while Apple reportedly has glasses in development.
Snap positions Specs as educational and entertainment devices. The company developed applications with the NBA and WNBA to facilitate basketball skill development, golf swing analysis, and exploration of three-dimensional solar system models.
Privacy concerns persist throughout the smart glasses industry. Snap emphasized that Specs exclude facial recognition technology and do not continuously capture audio, video, or photographs. An LED indicator activates during recording sessions.
Meta confronts similar privacy challenges. Journalist Joanna Stern discovered Facebook Marketplace vendors offering to disable recording indicators on Meta’s glasses. Meta announced in July its intention to remove such listings and pursue legal remedies against those providing the modification service.
SNAP shares concluded Wednesday’s session down 1.89%.
