S&P and Nasdaq Indices Gain Momentum Amid Technical Breakouts

The S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite indices have experienced a significant upward shift, moving beyond key technical levels that previously indicated a neutral trading bias. This change comes after a period of indecision where buyers and sellers were evenly matched. The S&P 500 closed yesterday between its 100-hour moving average at 7,667.69 and its 200-hour moving average at 7,675.90, but today it has opened higher, trading around 7,699, marking an increase of approximately 29 points.

For the S&P, maintaining a position above these moving averages is crucial for sustaining buyer momentum. The next targets for the index are set at 7,752.07, which is last Friday's high, followed by 7,771.48 and the all-time high of 7,816.70. Conversely, if the index falls below the 200-hour moving average, it could signal a shift in momentum back towards sellers.

Similarly, the Nasdaq Composite has broken above a key swing area that had previously constrained its movement. After closing within the range of 26,676.31 to 26,856.24, the index has now moved above this area, which is expected to act as support. The immediate target for the Nasdaq is last Friday's high of 27,122, followed by 27,190 and the all-time high of 27,288.79. A decline below 26,856.24 would weaken this breakout and necessitate defending the lower boundary at 26,676.31.
