Trump Proposes $5,000 Dividend for Americans Tied to Midterm Elections
Former President Donald Trump announced at the Republican Party's midterm convention in Dallas, Texas, that he would offer a $5,000 dividend to every adult U.S. citizen if Republicans secure control of both the House of Representatives and the Senate in the upcoming November elections. Trump described the proposal as a reward for voters, emphasizing that the funds would need to be spent within the United States.
The pledge, referred to as the "Trump Dividend," could potentially cost around $1.35 trillion if implemented, given the estimated 270 million adults in the country. However, Trump did not provide details on how the payments would be funded or the legislative process required to enact such a program, which would likely need congressional approval.
This proposal follows a previous commitment made by Trump in 2025 for a $2,000 tariff-funded dividend that was never realized. The new $5,000 figure represents a significant increase and is distinct from the earlier promise of a $1,776 dividend for military service members. The feasibility and potential legislative action surrounding this latest pledge will largely depend on the outcome of the midterm elections and subsequent negotiations in Congress.
