Trump Rules Out Attacks on Iran Before Midterms Amid Market Fluctuations

Former U.S. President Donald Trump stated that there will be no attacks on Iran before the upcoming midterm elections, a comment that initially caused fluctuations in oil prices. Following reports of potential military action, oil prices surged in Europe. However, after Trump's clarification, crude oil prices rebounded, reflecting the market's sensitivity to geopolitical tensions and their impact on inflation.

In economic news, the Atlanta Federal Reserve's GDPNow tracker estimated a growth rate of 3.6% for the third quarter, slightly down from a previous estimate of 3.7%. Meanwhile, U.S. wholesale inventories rose by 0.5% in August, falling short of the expected 0.7% increase. Initial jobless claims remained low at 197,000, indicating a resilient labor market despite ongoing economic challenges.

Market performance showed the S&P 500 index declining by 0.5%, while WTI crude oil prices increased by $2.82 to reach $91.09 per barrel. Gold prices also rose, gaining $23 to settle at $4,133. U.S. Treasury yields fell by 5 basis points to 5.22%, reflecting investor sentiment amid the fluctuating economic landscape. Fed officials reiterated their commitment to controlling inflation, suggesting further monetary policy tightening may be necessary.
