U.S. Diesel Export Ban Could Intensify Global Shortage

A potential ban on diesel exports from the United States could exacerbate existing global fuel shortages, particularly impacting Latin America and Europe, according to a report from Capital Economics. This year, increased diesel exports from the U.S. have compensated for approximately half of the global supply disruptions caused by conflicts in Russia and the ongoing war in Iran.

If the U.S. implements a full export ban, it could reduce global seaborne diesel supply by an estimated 30%. Such a reduction is likely to lead to higher fuel prices worldwide, further straining economies that are already facing challenges due to rising energy costs. The implications of this ban could be felt across various sectors reliant on diesel fuel, from transportation to agriculture.
