U.S. Mortgage Rates Reach 7.30%, Impacting Housing Affordability

The average rate for a 30-year fixed mortgage in the United States has increased to 7.30%, marking an 18 basis point rise in just one week and an 84 basis point increase compared to the same period last year, as reported by the Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA).

In addition to the 30-year fixed rate, the 15-year fixed mortgage rate has also seen an uptick, now at 6.56%. The 5-year adjustable rate mortgage surged by 37 basis points to reach 6.47%.

These rising borrowing costs are contributing to heightened challenges in housing affordability across the country, making it increasingly difficult for potential homebuyers to enter the market.
