European Stocks Decline Amid U.S. Market Gains and Rising Oil Prices

European stock markets closed lower on Wednesday, with France experiencing the most significant decline among major indices. The DAX in Germany fell by 0.79% to close at 25,199.20, while France's CAC 40 dropped 0.89% to finish at 7,964.52. The UK's FTSE 100, although better off than its continental counterparts, still ended down by 0.29% at 10,606.01. Other notable declines included Italy's FTSE MIB, which decreased by 0.84%, and Spain's IBEX 35, down 0.47%.

In contrast, U.S. markets showed gains during the same period, led by the Nasdaq Composite, which rose by 1.08% to reach 27,086.59. The S&P 500 also increased by 0.61%, closing at 7,717.43, while the Dow industrial average remained relatively unchanged at 51,357.15. U.S. Treasury yields presented a mixed picture, with shorter maturities declining and longer maturities rising, resulting in a steepening yield curve.

In the commodities market, crude oil prices increased, with WTI crude futures rising by 2.44% to $91.56. Conversely, precious metals faced downward pressure, with spot gold decreasing by 0.49% to $4,161.40 and silver dropping by 1.91% to $60.284. The fluctuations in commodity prices were influenced by the movements in U.S. Treasury yields, which have created headwinds for gold and silver. Bitcoin also saw a modest increase, trading at $84,224, up 0.71%.
