UK Final GDP Growth Revised Upward for Q2 2026

The final estimate for the United Kingdom's gross domestic product (GDP) for the second quarter of 2026 shows a growth of 0.5% quarter-on-quarter, an increase from the preliminary figure of 0.4%. This marks a slight decline from the first quarter's growth of 0.6%. Year-on-year, the GDP growth was revised to 1.4%, up from the preliminary estimate of 1.2%, compared to a 0.9% growth in the first quarter.

The GDP figures reflect the inflation-adjusted value of goods and services produced in the UK, providing insights into the economy's performance amid ongoing challenges such as restrictive interest rates and energy price fluctuations. The revisions indicate that the services sector led the growth with a 0.5% increase, while construction rose by 0.3% and production remained unchanged. Household consumption increased by 0.3%, and business investment saw a notable rise of 1.7%.

Market analysts suggest that the upward revision could positively influence the British pound and negatively affect government bonds, as stronger economic activity may provide the Bank of England with more flexibility in addressing inflation. However, the overall market impact is expected to be minimal, as the final GDP figures are less likely to lead to significant shifts in economic expectations.
