Gold Prices Struggle Below $4,200 Amid Rising Treasury Yields

Gold prices have increased by 0.4% to approximately $4,170, showing some stability this week. However, analysts caution that the price movement lacks strong conviction. Earlier in the week, gold experienced a significant drop, falling nearly 4% to around $4,110, primarily due to surging U.S. Treasury yields and concerns over prolonged high interest rates.

Currently, the yield on 10-year U.S. Treasury bonds hovers near multi-decade highs at about 5.28%, after briefly approaching 5.30%. Despite a recent softer U.S. Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) price report, bond yields remain resilient, posing a challenge for gold buyers. Higher yields increase the opportunity cost of holding non-yielding assets like gold, which continues to weigh on the market.

While gold has managed to defend the $4,100 to $4,120 range, which aligns with a key Fibonacci retracement level, the overall sentiment remains cautious. The price has struggled to maintain momentum above the $4,200 mark, facing resistance from its 100-hour moving average. Until gold can decisively reclaim this level, the recent price recovery may be viewed as a consolidation rather than a definitive turnaround.
