USD/JPY Options Expiries and Market Dynamics on October 1
On October 1, notable expiry levels for the USD/JPY currency pair are set at 158.00 and 158.25, with the spot price currently positioned within 30 pips of the former and less than 10 pips from the latter. This concentration of options could influence price stability in this range as the market approaches the expiry cut-off at 10 AM New York time, barring any significant economic developments during the session.
Technical analysis indicates resistance at the 200-day moving average, located at 158.46, which may limit any upward movement in the USD/JPY during European trading hours. Recent price action has shown a bullish trend, with the currency pair breaking above key hourly moving averages around the 157.40-60 range, supported by a stronger U.S. dollar and rising Treasury yields, which are currently around 5.28%.
Market participants should remain cautious of potential intervention from Japanese or U.S. officials as the USD/JPY approaches these key levels. Such intervention could significantly impact market dynamics, especially as the currency pair seeks to establish further upward momentum.
