Key FX Option Expiries to Influence Currency Movements on September 30

On September 30, significant foreign exchange option expiries are set to impact trading, particularly for the EUR/USD and USD/JPY currency pairs. The EUR/USD expiry is positioned at the 1.1300 level, approximately 30 pips from the current spot price. With the U.S. dollar gaining strength amid a selloff in Treasury bonds, there is potential for the currency pair to gravitate towards this expiry level as the cut approaches. However, the June low of 1.1324 remains a critical support level that sellers must breach to push the pair lower.

For USD/JPY, the expiry is at the 157.00 level, with the spot price less than 15 pips away. This proximity suggests that the 157.00 level could serve as a pivotal point during the European trading session and into the expiry. Any minor downward movement could trigger option-related flows that may pull USD/JPY back towards this strike price. Conversely, significant movements away from 157.00 might encounter hedging flows that could counteract such shifts.

Market participants are also closely monitoring dollar sentiment, particularly in relation to long-end yields in the bond market. Additionally, the end of the month and quarter could introduce further volatility into the market, influencing price movements across major currency pairs. Traders are advised to remain vigilant as these factors unfold throughout the trading session.
