Inflation Data and Economic Reports Shape Market Expectations

On September 30, 2026, key inflation data from France and Germany is set to influence market expectations regarding potential interest rate changes by the European Central Bank (ECB). The French Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) year-on-year is anticipated to rise to 3.2%, up from 2.6% previously, with particular attention on the core inflation measure, which decreased to 1.1% last month. A higher-than-expected inflation reading could strengthen the case for a rate hike at the ECB's upcoming meeting, with markets currently pricing in a 40% likelihood of such an increase.

In Germany, the HICP is also expected to reach 3.2%, compared to 2.9% prior, while the core measure remains steady at 2.4%. Given Germany's significant role in the Eurozone's inflation calculations, this data is particularly crucial for shaping monetary policy decisions across the region.

Later in the day, the American session will feature the US ADP employment report and the Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) price index. The ADP report is projected to show an increase to 74,500 jobs added, up from 38,000, although it may not significantly impact the market unless the results deviate negatively. The PCE index is expected to remain stable, with year-on-year figures at 3.7% for the overall index and 3.3% for the core measure, reflecting a consistent inflation trend that has been largely anticipated.
