European Central Bank Expected to Raise Interest Rates Amid Limited Economic Data

The European Central Bank (ECB) is anticipated to increase interest rates by 25 basis points during its upcoming meeting, raising the policy rate to 2.50%. This decision comes as the ECB signals a reduced willingness for further tightening, setting a higher threshold for any additional rate hikes in the future. The market is currently pricing in a significant likelihood of another rate increase in December, despite the muted reaction expected from today's French industrial production report, which is not expected to influence ECB policy.

In the United States, the weekly ADP employment change data will be released, although it is not expected to significantly impact market movements. Recent labor market data has shown stability, with the August Non-Farm Payroll (NFP) report indicating job growth that nearly tripled the consensus estimate of 56,000, while the unemployment rate remained steady at 4.1%.

Additionally, ECB President Christine Lagarde and ECB board member Joachim Nagel are scheduled to speak today, but their comments are not expected to address monetary policy due to the ongoing quiet period ahead of the ECB meeting.
