Key FX Option Expiries Set for September 24 Impact Currency Trading
On September 24, significant foreign exchange option expiries are anticipated to influence trading conditions, particularly for the EUR/USD, USD/JPY, and USD/CAD currency pairs. The EUR/USD pair is notably positioned near the 1.1400 level, with the current spot price just below this strike. The pair has been on a downward trend throughout the week, driven by strong demand for the U.S. dollar as 10-year Treasury yields have surged past 5%, reaching 5.11%, the highest level since 2007. If trading remains around the 1.1400 mark, this level may act as a short-term magnet, potentially leading to more stable price movements as the expiry approaches.
In contrast, the USD/JPY pair is set at the 157.50 level, which is somewhat distant from current trading levels. This distance suggests that the expiries may have limited impact on trading conditions for this pair. The dollar's strength continues to be the primary market driver, with USD/JPY facing resistance at the 200-day moving average, currently at 158.43. Any upward movement will be closely monitored as traders assess the technical landscape.
Lastly, the USD/CAD pair has a significant expiry at the 1.4100 level, which is nearly aligned with the current spot price. The proximity and size of this expiry could lead to increased volatility and two-way price action around this level. However, any substantial movement away from this strike will likely depend on broader market catalysts, particularly any further developments in the bond market that could influence the dollar's performance.
