Bank of America Reports Currency Trends Ahead of Month-End Fixing

Bank of America (BofA) has released its latest analysis on expected currency flows as the month-end fixing approaches, indicating potential selling pressure for the Japanese yen (JPY) and British pound (GBP), while forecasting inflows into the euro (EUR). The bank's rebalancing model, which is based on a conventional 60/40 global equity and bond portfolio, suggests that international portfolios may need to adjust their currency exposure due to relative movements in asset markets throughout September.

The analysis highlights that while the euro is expected to see inflows, these may not lead to significant price changes as they run counter to other short-term signals. Conversely, both the yen and pound are facing bearish trends according to BofA's quantitative signals and anticipated rebalancing flows, which could intensify selling pressure for these currencies.

As September marks the end of the third quarter, additional rebalancing flows may occur, further complicating the currency landscape. BofA emphasizes that while these month-end flows are important, they should not be viewed as definitive directional indicators, as they can be unpredictable and gain significance as the fixing date approaches.
