USA Rare Earth (USAR) Stock Climbs Following Quantum Computing Alliance Announcement

      Key Highlights

      • Shares of USA Rare Earth (USAR) climbed 2.9% during pre-market hours Thursday following news of a quantum machine learning collaboration with Pasqal (PSQL) and Riven Systems.
      • The initiative seeks to create advanced separation molecules for more efficient rare earth element processing.
      • The partnership focuses on converting Mixed Rare Earth Carbonate into separate oxides, an area where Chinese manufacturers currently hold a dominant position.
      • Pasqal’s Neutral Atom quantum processor will evaluate quantum machine learning algorithms against traditional computing approaches.
      • Riven Systems will conduct automated testing to create training datasets for the machine learning algorithms.

USA Rare Earth (USAR) shares saw a 2.9% uptick in pre-market activity Thursday following the company’s announcement of a tripartite alliance with quantum computing specialist Pasqal (PSQL) and AI chemistry innovator Riven Systems.

The collaboration aims to leverage quantum machine learning technology to identify novel molecules capable of separating rare earth elements with greater efficiency than existing methods.

The initiative addresses a particularly challenging and expensive bottleneck: the separation of Mixed Rare Earth Carbonate into distinct oxides. This critical process remains largely controlled by Chinese manufacturing operations.

At the time of publication, USAR stock was changing hands at $15.10, representing a 1.95% decline for the session, and has dropped 93% year-over-year. The company maintains a modest market capitalization of approximately $16.6 million.

      Technical Approach and Methodology

Riven Systems will execute automated laboratory testing procedures to generate training datasets for machine learning algorithms. These algorithms will concentrate on extractant selectivity—identifying which chemical compounds most effectively bond with particular rare earth elements.

Pasqal will subsequently deploy its Neutral Atom quantum processor to compare quantum machine learning algorithms with conventional computing methodologies. The objective is to enable USA Rare Earth to identify optimal extractants more rapidly.

Source materials for the initiative will include USA Rare Earth’s Round Top mining operation in Sierra Blanca, Texas, alongside third-party mixed rare earth carbonates and recycled material from magnet production processes.

Alex Moyes, Senior Vice President of Upstream at USA Rare Earth, noted that the rare earth sector outside of Asia has consistently faced challenges with the separation phase. “Chinese manufacturers control this capability, particularly for critical heavy rare earths including dysprosium, terbium, and yttrium,” he explained.

Moyes emphasized the partnership’s objective to “eliminate years of trial-and-error” through accelerated, more efficient chemistry development.

      Partner Company Profiles

Established in 2019, Pasqal develops neutral-atom quantum computing systems with comprehensive software integration. The France-headquartered company maintains operations worldwide. PSQL stock declined 4.12% during the trading session.

Riven Systems, based in New York, specializes in artificial intelligence applications for industrial chemistry processes.

USA Rare Earth maintains operations throughout the rare earth supply chain, spanning extraction to magnet production, with locations across the United States, Brazil, and the United Kingdom.

The organization owns Less Common Metals, a manufacturer of rare earth metals and alloy products, and is expanding magnet production capabilities in Stillwater, Oklahoma.

Over the trailing twelve-month period, USA Rare Earth recorded $2.25 million in revenue with a gross profit margin approaching 16%, based on InvestingPro data.

Should the new separation molecules demonstrate effectiveness, the partnership envisions developing more compact, economical, and energy-efficient processing operations.
